Lets Talk: Engagement Season and no, it’s not just you.
Well hello there lovelies, Happy Hump Day! Isn’t this week just speeding by, I can’t quite believe that we have reached mid November.. It seems that all of a sudden Christmas is upon us and I’m still stuck thinking that summer was only a couple of weeks ago (wishful thinking, right?). In my spare time, I’m actually finalising a little trip to Paris over the festive period, do you have any Christmas plans booked in already?
Oh, and whilst we’re on topic I thought it was only right to talk about something that has been playing on my mind, I’m sure you will have noticed it, too.

With the party season starting in just a couple of weeks, you don’t need to ask yourself: “Is it just me?” when you scroll through your Facebook or Instagram feeds and see an oddly large number of engagement ring photos. It’s happening to us – and many more of you, I know.
You may have noticed this last year after the engagement of the prince Harry and his beautiful bride-to-be, Meghan. Or perhaps, there has been a fluctuation in the amount of your friends that have little sparklers on their fingers. That, we can thank a funny little (or big!) thing called ‘Engagement Season‘.
So what is ‘Engagement Season‘ I hear you ask?
The term ‘engagement season’ has been coined in the US (of course!) to mark the period when there is an increased spike in the number of engagements. So pretty self explanatory, right? This occurs from (in the US) Thanksgiving in late November up till February. Yes, there are people who get engaged on Valentines Day. How original. And there are some people who think an engagement ring is equivalent to a Christmas present. That’s thoughtful. One gift, two uses!
Of course, it’s totally to you when you pop the question, or vice versa.

While Thanksgiving isn’t celebrated in the UK or many other countries with the same cultural significance as in the US, the festive season from December to January is still peak time worldwide for engagements here. Why? Because people are conventionally in a more positive and emotionally-inclined mood, making it an ideal time to ask the big question for some.
I guess all the magical Christmas lights, cosy evenings and the joy that all of the festivities bring does make for a romantic time of year. There’s certainly a air of positivity and a sense of family.
For the practically minded, proposing in ‘Engagement Season‘ also leaves enough time to plan a wedding a year and a half ahead for the Summer. It comes as no surprise that May, June, July, August and September are all the most popular times of the year to get married.

Of course, no matter what time of the year you ‘pop the question’ it will be special. Everyone has their reasons for proposing at different times, and for some that is this time of the year that we’re in now. Christmas Eve and New Years Eve being the most popular.
