Find out what your girls love – and loathe – about being your bridesmaid with today’s sneak-peak survey.
This week’s WeddingHour Wednesday is a little different, as today – 13th April – is National Bridesmaids Day.
Being asked to be a bridesmaid is a huge honour. It means that the bride has asked you to be one of the select few, personally chosen to share in her wedding day. You might be a childhood friend, and close work colleague, a relative…however your friendship formed, it’s one that’s standing the test of time. Therefore, it’s you that your friend has chosen to accompany her down the aisle on her way to say ‘I Do’.
That said, though it is a great honour to be chosen to be a bridesmaid, a huge amount of work goes into the role. From planning the hen do to helping police rowdy guests, there’s much more than just posing for the wedding party photos.
Therefore, to mark National Bridesmaids Day, Butlers in the Buff and Hen Heaven – two of the UK’s biggest hen party providers – have joined forces to chat to real life bridesmaids. They’ve been conducting research, speaking to bridesmaids to discover the stresses that come with the honour (or job, perhaps depending on your bride!) and have kindly shared their results with us.
They asked 500 women across the UK about their experiences of being a bridesmaid. Some of their feedback might surprise you!
73% of the women interviewed said they really enjoy being a bridesmaid; 20% answered ‘sometimes’ and 8% said ‘no’.
When asked ‘What’s the best part of being a bridesmaid?’:
67% said that it’s all about spending special moments with their best friend.
47% say it’s about feeling trusted and flattered.
44% refer to organising the hen do as the best thing about the role.
When asked ‘What’s the hardest part of being a bridesmaid?’:
52% referred to the financial cost and the stress that comes with the role.
41% said that it’s dealing with ‘bridezilla’ moments.
34% refer to organising the hen do (it seems the jury’s out on this one!)
What do you think? Do those results surprise you? Or can you relate to exactly what the ladies in the surveys say? We’d love to hear your experiences of being a bridesmaid. Did you love organising the hen do, or find yourself tackling a nightmare bride-to-be?
Brides: tell us your experiences too! We’d love to know if you had a friend who went the extra mile as a bridesmaid. Or, if you dare to share, let us know if you had a nightmare maid? We’ll keep it confidential, we promise! Comment below, or drop us a line at email@example.com.
