Why It’s OK To Be Picky When Choosing Your Photographer
Happy hump day, fellow readers. I do hope that you’re well this glorious morning. Whether you’re making the most of the final glimpse of the summer sun or spending your day hard at work, we have some priceless wedding inspiration for you today, all about wedding photographers.
We all know more than anyone, that designing and creating the day of your dreams can be difficult work. From planning all of the itsy floral details, to selecting your colour scheme and picking between menus, there’s lots to do and it can be just a little bit stressful, to say the least.
Whilst all of this is important, and we understand that everyone’s priorities are different; we will urge you to invest in a wedding photographer. Why I hear you ask? Well a photographer will capture everything that you have spent months, possibly years planning. The memories. The tears. The love. All of which, is surely unmissable on your wedding day.
Which of course, brings us to today’s topic – Why it’s totally OK to be picky when it comes hiring a photographer.

Your style is something which is unique to you both and you will want to make sure that you choose someone who can capture the best our of your personalities, and reflect this through their work.
As a couple you may already know what style of photography you want to go for. You may decide this around the theme of your day, the look you are wanting to achieve, or simply a style that the pair of you are in to.
Whether you are looking for relaxed vintage photography, formal photography or a more candid approach. There honestly is something for everyone and you should ensure that your photographer ‘gets you’ as much as you get them.

Of course, another one of the big things to consider when choosing your photographer, is do your personalities suit each-other, and do you get on well – can you talk to them openly about what you want and don’t want? After all the day is about you as a couple and what you want, not the photographer!
If you don’t get on great with the chosen photographer, or if you don’t necessarily ‘get’ them, then this may show in photographs. It may leave you feeling uncomfortable in front of the camera and actually make you dislike the photos. You want natural photos, where you look genuinely happy; definitely not photos where you feel awkward.
Go for a photographer who makes you laugh, smile and who is open to new suggestions! One that is more of a friend than a wedding supplier. Trust us!

The Little Details…
Think about what you want captured in your own wedding photos when looking through portfolios. In the grand scheme of things you may think you just want mainly people shots, but then you have to think about all the hard work you have put into your special day. Have you used a florist or event stylist who has created exquisite details, or maybe you have done a lot of D.I.Y for your day?
The beautiful details of the day are just as important as the ‘people’ in the pictures too. You’ll have to be picky and ensure that your photographer captures these smaller elements of your day.
Top Tip – Keep thinking of this when looking at photographers work, what do they capture the most and it is in line with what you want from your photographs?

This is a big part of choosing your wedding photographer. A bit like when choosing your wedding dress, try not to look at photographers who are out of your budget, unless you have a bit of lee way here and there.
At The Wedding Affair we think that your photographer should be one of the things you think about the most when it comes to planning and budgeting. Just remember, your wedding photos will last long after the day is over and hiring the best suited one for you will truly be an investment.
