Approved By The Wedding Affair: Introducing Midgley Wedding Cinematography…
Good afternoon, we hope you are all having a wonderful day so far! This afternoon we are introducing Midgely Wedding Cinematography. Now, you may have already met these lovely lads back in January at The Wedding Affair at The York Marriot, and then our super gorgeous Traditional & Vintage show at Ripon Cathedral, but just in case you missed them we have Tom here with all the information you will need; including some great tip’s for Brides and Grooms-to-be. Tom actually tied the knot last year so had some priceless advice for couples. Plus, you won’t want to miss out on their AMAZING offer too!
Midgley Wedding Cinematography are videographers based in Leeds, West Yorkshire but are willing to travel absolutely anywhere! Take a look at their two clips for a taster as to what your very own wedding video could look like.
Take it away boys…
Tell us a little bit about you and what made you start up your company. Are there any highlights in your career that are special to you either professionally or personally?:-
Well my education from college has always centred around Film & Video, I have a huge passion for Cinematography and making things look as beautiful as they can be through a lens. After leaving University I have done a lot of different Video work and for several years I assisted other Wedding Videographers in and around Yorkshire.
I never intended to get into Wedding Films, but after enjoying assisting so much I took the plunge and bore the responsibility of shooting my first Wedding Film – which was brilliant (if i don’t say so myself!) – and from then on I fell in love with Wedding Videography.
One of my highlights so far is assisting on a Wedding in St Paul’s Cathedral in London for some very special people. I personally could’ve spent weeks there shooting all the amazing sights and capturing the regal atmosphere the day held; it was an overwhelming experience. What makes you different and inspires Brides/Grooms to book your services or purchase your products?
A huge advantage for Brides & Grooms booking with Midgley Wedding Cinematography is that we come as a team, all our packages and shoots have two cinematographers as standard; which is my colleague Lee and I. Most companies or wedding videographers charge for an extra operator, and because we have two people as standard – that allows us to capture moments like the ceremony and speeches with much more control and diversity.
We also use our editing time to craft a narrative, and hear little bits of the speeches and ceremony that may have been particularly funny, moving or beautiful to construct a story. It is a very cinematic experience, from the huge soundtrack to the anamorphic widescreen.
Is there anyone in the industry or in the World for that matter, that inspires you and gives you a sense of direction:-
The people who impact me most regarding where I focus my efforts and build for my future are my family, especially my wife, who is my very-own personal (and very honest) film critic.
My favourite Wedding Videographer whose work is quite literally breathtaking is a Yorkshire wedding videographer called Mark Lenik of Lenik Wedding Cinematography. I have assisted some of his weddings now and again over the years and he always provided such great advice and patience; as well as support in encouraging me to do better. (He has an awful taste in music though – sorry Mark!)
What do you love about weddings, what makes you get up in the morning and do you have any stories to tell or embarrassing moments:-
What I love about Weddings is that even though they all usually follow a conventional ‘format’, each one is completely unique. You never know what surprise is in store, so you have to be on your guard and capture the experience unfolding naturally. I mean, whenever you get families together, there is always an amazing atmosphere – and sometimes the speeches have me in tears of joy and sadness (I cry at anything). I also love sharing the finished products with the Brides and Grooms, and receiving such personal and lovely feedback – you don’t get such heartfelt feedback with corporate work!
If you were to offer three tips to a Bride/Groom, on planning their wedding, what would they be?
Wow, what a question! I myself got married late last year, and found out many valuable lessons.
1) Your happiness comes first. This sounds kinda selfish, but this is the only day where it is truly yours and your partners, don’t let other’s unreasonable demands or pettiness ruin your experience!
2) Enlist helpers. Recruit a selfless member or two of both the Bridal Party and the Groom’s Party. They will be amazingly helpful in helping organise guests and family for photos, making sure people find their way and dealing with any minor issues that crop up throughout the day.
3) Book an amazing videographer of course!
What type of Venue, Style of Wedding or Theme would suit your products or services and why?
I have filmed in a huge dynamic of venues, from family homes to huge mansions out in the country. Our mission is to not impose ourselves on the day, but to be unobtrusive, stay in the background and capture the events unfolding naturally. This means wherever we are or whoever we are filming, we can adapt and still be at the top of our game.
We are even happy to do Destination Weddings, anywhere in the world!
What are your plans for the future, where would you like to be in 5 years time both in the industry and personally?
In 5 years time I would love to have healthy amount of Weddings every single month to capture, and really get my teeth into crafting some amazing pieces of art; that to me would be the highest success I could achieve. And my plan on getting there is working my socks off!Can you tell our Brides/Grooms about your different packages?

The Classic Package is a 3 – 4 minute Highlight film, a 13 – 15 minute Cinematic feature and a cut of the Speeches in full! This is from morning preparations to 30 minutes after the first dance (dancing and drinks!).
