Top Tips Tuesday: The Wedding Affair’s Top Tips For Choosing Your Destination…
You have spent months planning every detail of your dream wedding. Finally, your chance to relax has arrived… It’s honeymoon time! Whether your idea of a romantic interlude involves lying together in the lap of beachfront luxury in the Maldives, diving hand-in-hand into an action-filled adventure in Thailand, or perhaps soaking in some of history’s most extraordinary moments on a cultural tour.
One of the toughest choices couples face during the wedding process is where to take that much-anticipated honeymoon. Being a once-in-a-lifetime trip, it’s a decision not to be taken lightly. However, you may find yourself lost in a massive Google search, making arrangements for the perfect getaway, but where do you actually start? For today’s Top Tips Tuesday we are looking at how to choose your perfect honeymoon destination…
As with most things this is one of the most important. Once you have set your budget, the world is your oyster… you will know how much you can allocate for flights, transport, accommodation, activities and meals etc. Yes we understand that budgets are the most dull parts of wedding planning, but it needs to be done!
Make sure you talk through with your fiancee how much you want to set aside for the honeymoon in proportion to the wedding, don’t leave it till last just because it is after the wedding. Remember, this could be potentially your first time away as a couple and important relaxation time after a busy year/months!
Long Haul Vs Short Haul…
Consider where you are both wanting to go, take into consideration whether you will be close to home or further away. If you choose long haul you may want a longer honeymoon due to the amount of travelling. Ensure that you have enough time booked off work waaay in advance to avoid disappointment!
If you don’t have the time for a honey moon, why not consider a mini moon?
Time Of Year For Your Destination…
With consideration to national holidays, prices, local customs, and potential weather disruptions. The time period also makes a huge difference in where you are wanting to go. Set on Italy for your honeymoon? The summer months can offer up sizzling temperatures, extortionate prices, and massive crowds. Not your cup of tea? Look for dates which aren’t in the usual European holiday dates.
Looking toward the Caribbean after your fall wedding celebration? Remember that September and October are both prime hurricane months for honeymoon hot spots like Jamaica, Bermuda, and the Bahamas. So your dreamy honeymoon destination may not be so dreamy if you are seeking sun, sand and relaxation. A bit of research will go a long way!
The overall vibe you’re seeking from a destination will also be a key part when deciding on your honey moon. Deciding upon a hotel or villa will also play a key factor in narrowing down your ultimate choice. For example, if you’re huge fans of mega-hotels and an overall party atmosphere, places like Las Vegas, Ibiza and Cancun in Mexico should fit perfectly with your style. However, if privacy and relaxation, are all at the top of your list, we are thinking private villa’s or luxurious boutique hotels. They would be ideal in countries like Greece, The Maldives, and Bali.
The Actual Destination!
Ultimately, your honeymoon is a once in a life time trip so we say, go for your dream destination! We are thinking somewhere that offers the luxury of seclusion, in a beautiful and romantic setting. However, if you aren’t one to just sit on a beach all day, look into what activities are local to where you are staying. Whether it is special experiences to celebrate the honeymoon, like a couple’s spa massage or candlelight dinner, or preferences for beach, golf, or water sports. Choose somewhere that suits you both, and that you will remember for the rest of your lives.
The Weddng Affair suggests… we recommend taking a Polaroid camera and GoPro, so you can keep photos of all your special memories together! We also recommend talking to an expert about your honeymoon, they will be able to offer you great travel advice and hand select the most luxurious get-away’s.
