Top Tips Tuesday: Wonderful Wedding Cake Flavours…

Someone actually came up with a national day for sponge cake, and as silly as it sounds we are secretly loving it! I mean, a day dedicated to sponge cake? Who wouldn’t love that, and also what a perfect excuse to write about cake!
So bringing you this weeks Top Tips Tuesday… wonderful wedding cake flavours for both a Summer wedding, and for those of you having an Autumn wedding. Isn’t this year just flying by! Oh, and we do apologise for any mouth watering images may cause in this blog…

Naked Cake Flavours…
Naked cakes have being ever so popular this summer, and there is no surprise. Have you seen how gorgeous they look?! Sure, there aren’t any fondant decals or buttercream ruffles, but you’ll be surprised just how many style options you have to choose from when it comes to this beautiful bare cake trend. The minimal design allows for a total blank canvas for fruit, and flowers, as well as a delicious flavor to become the main focal point of the dessert.
Flavours we just feel that are perfect for the famous un frosted wedding cake are:
Strawberry & Cream
The traditional summer favourite, this flavour would be ever so popular among your guests. Stick to a traditional vanilla sponge cake, fresh strawberry’s and instead of using a butter cream, why not opt for whipped cream with a dash of honey and lemon, to really bring out the summery flavours. Of course, this cake would not be complete without a refreshing glass of Pimms!
Lemon Curd Layers
Why not have a beautiful vanilla cake adorned with fresh raspberries and plenty of lemon zest. To add to the extra tang, the layers can be alternated with lemon curd and lemon buttercream. Top with fresh raspberries and lemon peels for decoration.
Un – Frosted Carrot Cake
We love the sound of a non traditional naked carrot cake. Even better with a brown sugar cream cheese frosting coated between the layers! Ask your cake baker to top with pomegranate seeds and carrot curls, for a vibrant finish. This cake just sounds just perfect to us for an Autumnal wedding, something slightly different but sounds utterly delicious!
Other flavours that we are currently loving are:
A Chocolate Cake with a Twist…
Indulgent, rich and so, so delicious! One of the most popular flavours of all time. However, if you love chocolate but you don’t quite think that it will cut it out for your dream cake, don’t worry we have some ideas that will bring a plain chocolate cake to life…
How about a traditional chocolate cake with a rich chocolate mousse layered with dark chocolate ganache, chocolate shavings and fresh raspberry compote? Yummy! Or how about a touch of mint infused in chocolate cake with added chocolate cookies and cream filling and a layer of chocolate ganache. We love these alternative chocolate cake flavours! Feeling hungry yet?
Passionfruit, White Chocolate & Madagascan Vanilla
This has to be one of the most delicious cake samples i have tried at a Wedding Fair (of course, tasting the different cake flavours is one of the best parts of wedding planning!). Blossom Tree Cake Company always bring the most beautiful samples to our wedding fairs, so we can vouch for the fact that they would create something equally as spectacular in design as it tastes! A lovely moist vanilla and Belgian white chocolate sponge, complete with a light and fluffy vanilla butter cream and home made passion fruit curd to top it off!
Champagne Cake Flavour
Another one of our favourite cake flavours has to be champagne. What better way to celebrate a glamorous wedding than having a glass of champagne to toast, then a champagne flavoured cake to follow? The name alone shouts ‘luxury’, and that’s before you’ve even tasted a slice! A champagne cake will be the ultimate crowd-pleaser!
Who said that traditional had to be boring? Fruit cakes are packed with flavour, baked with different fruits, nuts and spices, and soaked in spirits. We’d also like to say that they’re maybe a little healthier than some other cakes (though we may just been convincing ourselves that a slice of cake can count towards our five-a-day!).
Sumptuous Spiced Cake
Planning your Autumnal wedding? We love the sound of this flavour… Spiced cake, paired with a caramel cream cheese mousse and fresh apple compote.
