Top Tips Tuesday: National Relaxation Day – Tackling wedding jitters, stress and emotions
A wedding isn’t referred to as a bride’s “Big Day” for the amount of layers of buttercream in the wedding cake or the length of the brides train. Most brides (and grooms, too) will feel at least a slight twinge of of nerves, pre-wedding jitters or a whole bunch of unexplained, mixed emotions — and that’s totally normal. After all, it’s perceived to be one of the most important moments in your life.
Just remember, you have more than likely to have been planning this day for at least a year and all of that planning comes to one day where all eyes are on you. For some, it’s bittersweet, joyous and/or scary it can understandably be really overwhelming. Either way, not knowing how to handle these emotions can lead to last minute bridal break downs and tearful tantrums. Of course, no one would want that.
To help calm your nerves before you walk down the aisle, whether it be this Summer or next Winter, we have a handy little guide with some essential wedding wisdom on how to relax, take time out and cope on the day of your wedding.

If you are on the lookout for an idyllic escape, even just for a few hours. Swinton Spa makes for a blissful break from all the pre-wedding stress. Alternatively, any excuse for some well deserved down time will do just fine. And, if you need a friend just “Hola” at me!
The same goes for your wedding day; If your cake toppers go missing or a ‘maid who has had too much to drink begins to overshadow you, take a little break to look back on the moment that got you to your vows. Looking back on memories such your first date, where it all began and the proposal will make you realise that these little things, in the grand scheme of things don’t really matter.
Are they really worth getting stressed out over and even compromising your happiness on the day?
Have some alone time with your partner…
It’s more common now that Brides and Grooms are ditching the traditions to have some alone time before the ‘I Do’s’. In America especially, this can be seen as a magical part of the day. Not only could this help you feel more calm, cool and collected, but your partner will be able to reassure you and possibly take a huge weight of your shoulders.
Of course, this is a hugely intimate time before the ceremony and you are going to be feeling this whole weird mixture of emotions. It can actually provide for some stunning photos, too.
So, why not ditch the traditions and opt for a ‘Sneak Peek’ before the ceremony?
I’m sure you will agree that these images sum up the idea of having that first look. They certainly make me feel a little warm and fuzzy on the inside.
Visualise the Honeymoon…
When the thought of the day or ceremony seems more stressful than blissful, think of your honeymoon. During wedding planning, many brides actually forget what normality is other than organising flowers and trying on detailed dreamy dresses. Not only can this cause a build up of stress on the day, but it too can lead to post-wedding blues as you could be lost with what to do with yourself.
If you start to feel overwhelmed; take a moment to yourself and think of life once you are married, on your honeymoon or those milestones such as starting a family or buying your first house together.
Alternatively, a mini-break will work similarly to taking a weekend away at a spa. It’s a lovely opportunity before the stress of the day to relax in your pre-wedding bubble. Catch up on our ideal weekend breaks here in one of our previous blogs. It’s filled with the dreamiest city destinations, we promise you.
On the morning of your wedding day you are more than likely to have people buzzing around you from left, right and centre; hair and make-up, your Bridesmaids, family and so on…
I’m sure at this point you are going to have a list of to-do’s in your head and it’s going to be hard to crack down on every single point whilst you are getting ready and having those pre-wedding photos. Remember, it is OK to ask for help. Delegate tasks to trusty people around you, ask people to check up on things and talk to suppliers, if necessary.
Ultimately, this will leave you to be able to sit back, relax, enjoy a glass of your favourite bubbly and know that everything had been taken care of.
Alternatively, hire a wedding planner for full planning help or on the day coordination. We have a few recommendations over on The Wedding Affairs’ preeetty directory. A planner will be able to help you relax throughout the process, leaving you to enjoy the experience even more, especially if you.
Have a Hearty Breakfast
I know i’m a sucker for eating when i’m stressed or anxious about something. I’m sure the same can be said for the thought of eating before your ceremony. However by eating a substantial breakfast, it will help to release energy slowly and will stabilise your blood sugar, this helps to abate nerves.
We all know too well that when stressed we crave food packed full with sugar. Remember when you have come down from that icing filled high your body will crash and you will feel even more exhausted and stressed. A healthy meal or snack will give you the right kind of lasting energy to power through till you next eat,
Oh, and eating will line your stomach. So, when people are constantly passing you the Prosecco you won’t have to worry about it going to your head.
