It’s time to sample some sweet treats and choose your wedding cake filling!
We promised you a blog about cake flavours, and here it is! Today’s Top Tips Tuesday is all about the most popular cake flavours of the moment, just to make your mouth water!
Couples spend so much time choosing the style and design of their wedding cake, selecting colours and patterns that go with their theme and make their cake a worthy, well-photographed, centrepiece. Who doesn’t want a beautiful cake to cut into?
With so much focus on appearance, sometimes the actual flavour of the cake can be an after-thought. When choosing a slice of cake in a café, or picking a restaurant dessert, the taste is the main driver in our selection process; however, where wedding cakes are concerned, many brides and grooms confess to making snap, last-minute decisions on flavour.
Let us help you. This Tuesday, we’re guiding you through our Top Tips for cake flavours: some of the most popular choices in recent years.
Of course, your cake supplier can advise you on their recommendations. Have you chosen your cake crafter from The Wedding Affair’s Approved Supplier List yet? They’re the best in the business, and we can vouch for that: they always have such delicious samples at our wedding fairs (of course, tasting the different cake flavours is one of the best parts of wedding planning!).
Can’t decide? Why not have a different flavour for each different layer?
Warning: the pictures and descriptions in this post will make your mouth water!
Indulgent, delicious and a favourite – you can’t go far wrong with chocolate! However, the main reason it’s made our Top Tips list is for the array of options it offers you. Pair with your favourite flavours, such as mint, orange, raspberry or strawberry, for a delicious taste that balances rich chocolate with a fresh, fruity hit. Our mouths are watering already!
Named due to its glamorous red colour, this is the flavour of romance. Not quite chocolate and not quite vanilla, it’s a great option if you can’t quite decide on a flavour, which may also explain its growing popularity. Red Velvet cakes are particular decedent when paired with a cream cheese frosting.
What’s more, the strong colour looks beautiful when cut into, making a statement on your photos or as a slice served on a plate to guests.
Recommended for brides and grooms wanting a lighter, fresher flavour for their wedding cake, lemon makes our Top Tips list as an ideal choice for a summer wedding. Paired with whipped cream and fresh fruits, it’s ideal for an outside celebration in the sunshine. What’s more, it makes for a lighter, more refreshing taste for guests to enjoy post-wedding breakfast.
How could we miss this from our list of the best? Add extra fizz to your day with the champagne from this cake flavour. One for a glamorous big day, the name alone shouts ‘luxury’, and that’s before you’ve even tasted a slice!
It’s a real crowd-pleaser, and a perfect choice for a celebration. Like Red Velvet, it also makes a statement when sliced with its beautiful pink colour (usually courtesy of a little food colouring dye). Why not match to your romance colour scheme?
Traditional doesn’t have to be boring. Fruit cakes are packed with flavour, baked with different fruits, nuts and spices, and soaked in spirits. Sounds good to us! We’d also like to say that they’re maybe a little healthier than some other cakes (though we may just been convincing ourselves that a slice of cake can count towards our five-a-day!).
Fruit cakes, when stored correctly, have a long shelf life: meaning you can enjoy them once your big day is over. In fact, couples traditionally would keep a layer of their fruit wedding cake to enjoy when celebrating the birth of their first child. Though that may not be a traditional for every couple today, it certainly proves that your cake can be enjoyed long after the celebrations are over!
Have we sent your tastebuds into overdrive?! We’re hungry now! We’d love to know what flavours of cake you chose, and why. Share them with us over on firstname.lastname@example.org. Wedding cake supplier? Share your favourite flavours with us for your chance to receive a complimentary blog feature.
