Thinking of popping the question this Valentine’s Day? Look no further: follow our Top Tips for a winning proposal this Sunday and get that all important ‘Yes’!
At The Wedding Affair and WeddingHour, we love Valentine’s Day. Of course we do: we spend our days celebrating engagements, sharing wedding photos and helping our wonderful brides and grooms bring their dream day to life. So there’s nothing that gets us more excited than hearing that someone’s about to pop the question!
Valentine’s Day is the second most popular day of the year to propose (after Christmas Eve, as you’ll remember from our Christmas Proposal special last December: click here if you missed it). You’re highly likely to be spending the day with that special person in your life, and may have something romantic lined-up to surprise them. And that just might be a ring and the question: ‘Will you marry me?’
It can be hard to think of the best way to ask that all-important question. After all, it’s a moment you’ll remember for the rest of your lives, so we best make sure we get it right! Whether you’d like to surprise your other half with a grand proposal or prefer a simpler gesture, look no further than this week’s Top Tips Tuesday for the best proposal ideas to secure that ‘Yes!’.
Recreate Your First Date
Remember the first time you met? Perhaps you went to a favourite restaurant that’s become a special place for you? Still buying the bottle of wine you drank? Remember what you wore? Recall the song that was playing on the radio? And the moment you knew that person was extra special? Bring the magic of that day back to life; although this time, make it even more magical by getting down on one knee.
Late Winter Walk
We know: it’s cold! But if the weather’s dry, wrap up warm and head out for the day: get those walking boots on and go out in the fresh air to somewhere special. A walk you often take together? A favourite viewpoint? Walk there together, hand-in-hand, wrapped up warm and, once you reach your destination, it’s time to ask the question! What’s more, you’ll get some beautiful photos to share of your special moment with that scenery in the background.
The Restaurant Proposal
It’s one of the most popular locations to propose, and we can see why: food, wine and a romantic atmosphere makes a restaurant an ideal place to ask ‘Will you marry me?’. There’s so much more to a restaurant proposal than hiding the ring in the cake (what if you don’t fancy cake? And you certainly don’t want an accidental-eating mishap!). Why not ask the waiters to ice ‘marry me’ in the chocolate swirl on your dessert plate? Bring out a bespoke bottle of wine, that you’ve had labelled with your big question? Or, if you’re not keen a fancy gesture, just a simple ‘down on one knee’ next to your loved one should do the trick.
Public proposals not for you? You can make proposing at home just as special. Maybe your partner is working on Valentine’s Day, and coming home a little late? Make their welcome all that more special by laying them a treasure hunt. Scattering hearts or rose petals to mark the path, leave little surprises and clues (such as cards and chocolates) at each destination until, ultimately, they arrive to you with that beautiful ring!
Did you get engaged on Valentine’s Day? Perhaps you’re reading this on 14th February this year with a brand new fiancé/e, and/or a sparkling ring on your finger?
