Burnham Beeches Hotel, Buckinghamshire… an enchanting Georgian Hideaway!
Standing handsomely within its own ten acres of private gardens and parklands, Burnham Beeches is an enchanting Georgian hideaway, located in the pretty village of Burnham, a convenient 50 minute drive from London. The historic country house is the perfect setting for a wedding, with its acres of beautiful gardens, stunning white facade, AA Rosette Restaurant, swimming pool and spa, 10 elegant and adaptable banqueting rooms, and 82 fashionable guestrooms. I think you’ll agree its a very handsome wedding venue!
We’ve mixed up some of our own (mobile camera) and some official images, so you can obviously see we’ve seen it for ourselves!
Chris and I were kindly invited to stay the evening, to use their facilities and enjoy the exquisite cuisine… a perfectly time stay as we were due to meet with the lovely Tina Reading from the Ultimate Wedding Magazine, based in Buckinghamshire about 20 minutes away.
Painted a dazzling white, the 18th Century manor house is flanked by beds of fragrant deep purple lavender, providing a stunning view from the tree lined drive up to the estate. The hotel is fronted by a magnificent expanse of manicured lawns, dotted with chic garden furniture with large white parasols. The weather wasn’t great on Monday or Tuesday 24th & 25th August, certainly typical for an English summer, we certainly experienced sunshine, pouring rain and overcast skies, however, the Hotel welcomed us with open arms, a glass of wine and a beer on hand after a long 4 and half hour journey from Yorkshire through incredible rain storms and miles and miles of roadworks. We were kindly shown to our room on the 1st floor… a refurbished bright room with delightful shades of calming blue and green with all the essentials required for an overnight stay…
Originally built in 1727 as a hunting lodge for the royal family, the house was then brought by the famous English poet Thomas Gray, before being sold to an aristocratic English family as their home. Today, Burnham Beeches is an established country house hotel that counts celebrities such as David Beckham as a fan. Part of the Corus Hotel Group, Burnham Beeches has built a reputation for delivering stunning bespoke weddings, and offering a range of comprehensive packages and complete wedding planning services.
We were expertly looked after by the Marketing Manager, shown around the Hotel and we could sense her passion and enthusiasm for a hotel that was undergoing a refurbishment. As part of the hotel’s refurbishment, each of the guestrooms has been restyled in an elegant quintessentially British manner. Pristine white beds are decked out in covetable lilac, deep mauve, or elegant pistachio with matching headboards, whilst tartan prints in the same hues on upholstery add a traditional feel. The bathrooms are clean and modern, with walk-in waterfall showers and a chic brand of Parisian toiletries. Statement printed wallpaper and paints continue the stylish theme into the corridors of the hotel.
For a wedding, the bride and groom have the choice of two luxurious bridal suites, both with their own large lounge area, master bedroom, spacious double bathroom and breathtaking views of the hotel grounds. The Thomas Gray Suite located in the East Wing is decorated in a high-end contemporary style, and features a luxurious roll top bath. While the Clifton Brown Suite is in the original part of the mansion, and decorated in a traditional style with a regal black and gold colour scheme and magnificent 4-poster bed. To be honest, it would be a hard choice for me to make if I was getting married now, I loved them both! I would however say, that the Clifton Brown Suite had a little bit more room for the larger bridal parties getting ready on the morning of the wedding.
The hotel offers two elegant banqueting suites licensed for civil ceremonies and civil partnerships. The beautiful Burnham Suite (for up to 40 guests) was originally the Sun Room of the manor when used as a hunting lodge, and features high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling sash windows with views of the front lawns.
For larger wedding parties, the ground floor Windsor Suite offers the complete package. Seating up to 120 guests, or 180 for an evening reception, the light airy room comes with its own private bar, lounge area, patio garden, and the smaller Dorney Suite which can be used for anything from a children’s playroom to a photo gallery. After dinner, the Windsor Suite has ample space for guests to dance the night away with the hotel’s resident DJ if they wish.
The front lawns are also the perfect setting for a truly unforgettable summer wedding. A marquee is available to hire for up to 450 guests, and dining options include an al fresco BBQ or hog and lamb spit roast carved by your own dedicated chef.
For an award-winning fine dining experience, guests can visit the hotel’s Gray’s Restaurant located in the original part of the manor house in a grand oak-lined dining room. The two AA Rosette restaurant offers classic British dishes cooked with the finest fresh, seasonal produce. The à la carte menu features dishes such as: Warm asparagus, open wellington of spinach and poached quail eggs, hollandaise sauce; Crispy sesame veal escalope, spring greens, garlic crush Jersey royal potato, sauce vierge; or Rhubarb panna cotta with rhubarb sorbet.
Chris and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner, reserved at 8pm after a swim and shower. We felt incredibly relaxed in the romantic candlelight in the bay window overlooking the front lawns. The staff were courteous and gracious and of course the food didn’t disappoint, it was delicious. The choice was phenomenal with 7 starters, 7 main courses and 6 desserts and a cheeseboard. After much deliberation I ordered the rolled ham hock, baby artichokes, fruit puree and crispy bread followed by the Fillet of beef, spinach puree, pomme Anna, port baby onions in a red wine jus. Chris ordered the white crab, mango and spring onion tian, radish and soy dressing followed by the English rump of lamp, pomme Anna (substituted instead of the cumin couscous) grilled vegetables in a sauce vierge.
We really were then spoilt for choice but chose well with Rose petal panna cotta, raspberry and lavender shortbread as well as the artisan British cheese selection, grapes, celery, quince jelly and homemade oat cakes. (Believe you me, the cheeses were exquisite: Village Maid Wigmore, Cornish Yarg, Barkham Blue and Mull of Kintyre) I know, I know, you’re jealous, who wouldn’t be (well, perhaps the Vegetarians although they had a fabulous selection to choose from!) (Apologies for the images, my HTC is almost ready to retire!) For more informal dining, the elegant Georgian Bar & Lounge offered an all day menu of classic comfort food, and a traditional Afternoon Tea between 2-6pm.
The hotel’s Leisure Club is fully equipped with everything a bridal party could need for a relaxing stay. Facilities include an indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, gymnasium, pine-scented sauna, and two spa treatment rooms. An in-house therapist offers a range of exclusive treatments from massages to manicures and pedicures for both men and women. Although we didn’t have time to experience the gym (actually I forgot to pack the required essentials – or was that on purpose!) or pleasure in a massage, we did have time to relax in the Sauna, although I only managed about 7 minutes, Chris stayed fast and managed at least 10 minutes (it was hot!) and we enjoyed the bubbles and warmth of the Jacuzzi followed by many lengths of the pool although not that deep, long or wide, it certainly was a welcome end to the day. Did I tell you, we had the whole place to ourselves, it felt exclusive to us…
The hotel is in a peaceful setting with an exclusive feel, despite being only minutes away from the lovely town of Windsor, the M4/M40 and Burnham Railway Station. 150 free parking spaces are conveniently available for wedding guests.

After a good night’s sleep (although a little warm, using the air conditioning to cool us down) we got up leisurely for breakfast and enjoyed a full cooked English breakfast, freshly squeezed orange juice, tea, coffee and toast. If it wasn’t for the meeting we had to attend at 10.00am, we would have sneaked in another visit to the Spa or wandered the gardens (although it was raining again!!)
Burnham Beeches itself is a beautiful area for exploring. With 540 acres of protected ancient woodland it is a favourite location shoot for films such as Sherwood Forest in Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. The villages along the way were gorgeous and truly reflected its rightful position in the English countryside.
Wedding Packages start at just £3,999 for the Essential Package based on 50 guests, or £164 per person for the Elegance Package. A classic single bedroom starts from £100, and a suite from £279 per night.
Don’t hesitate to give the staff a call and ask for a show round, they really were very helpful and made our stay so pleasant. Thanks so much, we had a wonderful night away and an exceptionally long and exciting meeting took place with Tina the very next morning over coffee in their Drawing Room!
