Lets find out more from their founder, Adam…
Tell us a little bit about you and what made you start up your company. Are there any highlights in your career that are special to you either professionally or personally?
“Like so many others in the industry, I began my career as a working musician, performing at weddings and corporate events as a way to raise funds for my original music projects. I think for many creative people, whether in music, photography or something entirely different, there often comes a point when we have to move on to something completely new, and that’s where the idea of starting a music agency came along.
At the time, I was supplementing my performance income working as a freelance web designer which proved to be the perfect combination for an online agency, combining web development and design with my experience in live music”
What makes you different and inspires Brides/Grooms to book Bands For Hire. For example, do you have a particular style or theme that you cover?
“As a former vocalist and guitarist myself, I’m quite particular when it comes to selecting new bands and artists. We have a very tough selection process at Bands For Hire and whilst that’s meant our roster has taken longer to build than many other agencies, we’re proud to be able to recommend every single band and act on our books.”
Bands For Hire promises to take your event to the next level with their broad selection of wedding bands and musicians. Offering a broad base of talent, covering everything from contemporary chart music to vintage swing, you’re bound to find something to compliment your big day.
“Our selection of live music includes indie bands, soul bands, jazz & swing bands, string quartets, solo wedding harpists, pianists and much more. Whether you’re looking to hire a band for your evening reception, or something a little more laid back for the daytime entertainment, we have a range of options to choose from.”
Is there anyone in the industry or in the World for that matter, that inspires you and gives you a sense of direction?
“I’m a keen reader of autobiographies, especially from entrepreneurs in the public eye. It was after reading both Richard Branson and Alan Sugar’s biographies that I became inspired to start the business.”
What do you love about weddings, what makes you get up in the morning and be inspired to do what you do?
“As an entrepreneur, it’s the ever evolving progress of the business that I love, I’m always tweaking our booking system and looking for ways to improve the customer experience.
I also get a real buzz out of finding new bands. We spend so much time listening to new bands and artists and so when we come across a real talent that’s yet to be discovered, it makes it all worth while.”
If you were to offer three tips to a Bride/Groom, on planning their wedding, what would they be?
“Book with plenty of time to spare… but not too much! If you’re planning a wedding for the following summer, don’t wait until January to book your band, as many of the best bands may already be booked up, especially if it’s a peak Saturday. Having said that, I wouldn’t suggest booking two years in advance as some bands will charge a higher price, knowing that there’s plenty of time to fill the date.
Book a band that perform a range of music, new and old. It’s easy to focus on the type of music that you love, but that’s not always the best option for weddings where guests cover such a broad age range.
Don’t start the band too early. It’s tempting to feel the need to get cracking with the band straight away, but they will usually be the highlight of the evening and you don’t want to peak too early.”
What type of Venue, Style of Wedding or Theme would suit Bands For Hire and why?
“We now have an extensive roster of bands and acts which means there’s the perfect option to suit any style of wedding. Some examples include string quartets for traditional English wedding ceremonies, prohibition style swing bands to match a vintage theme or something completely unique to you (Mariachi band for a Mexican theme perhaps?!).”
What are your plans for the future, where would you like to be in 5 years time both in the industry and personally-
“We’re currently improving our artist management packages so that we represent bands exclusively and have more input on their promotional material. We feel we have the management experience to guide bands in the right direction in order to become the best in their field.”
Have you found your wedding entertainment or musicians yet? If not, then we’re hoping that you’ll take a look at Bands For Hire’s website, it makes such ease of something that would otherwise be tricky work. Oh, and we promise you that they have some real quality acts so you can say “Buh Bye” to the dodgy DJ and “Hello” to a musician that represents both of your styles and personalities.
