Meet Jodie & Gareth
And what a stunning couple they truly are… look at Jodie’s eyes, just beautiful, brimming with excitement and happiness at marrying her beau at the gorgeous Hawkhills near York. A venue we fell in love with many years ago, we’re not surprised Jodie & Gareth did too. Originally owned by the Love family, the Hawkhills is a beautiful and historic country home. Sympathetically updated, it retains its original Georgian and Victorian architecture and features, combining understated grandeur with a relaxed and tranquil atmosphere perfect for an English Country Wedding.
Located in idyllic countryside and with its own extensive, landscaped grounds, the Hawkhills provided a striking and dramatic backdrop for Jodie and Gareth’s wedding with immaculately maintained lawns and gardens. Steven Eric Parker was their Photographer… We caught up with Jodie after their honeymoon and this is what she had to say!

Tell us a little bit about how you both met and how long you’ve been together. What made you fall in love?:-
We met at work 8 years ago, we both liked each other for about a year but neither of us knew until a friend interveened (I’m glad she did!) now we have been together for 7 years and Gareth finally popped the question after 5 years together!
How was the inevitable question popped, where and who by:-
Gareth surprised me with a weekend away in the Lake District, I had always wanted to go and never expected Gareth to propose which made it even more special.
Gareth intended to propose after a walk in the country side near where we were staying, he knew I would have wanted it to just be the two of us, but as it rained he has to compromise with the hotel bar, luckily we had the bar all to ourselves and he hid the ring behind the bar, he asked me to come and get my drink he had poured for me and when I saw the ring I turned around and he was on one knee!
He also asked my dad beforehand which was so important to me, he is a secret romantic!
What excited you about getting married and the planning process, what was the first thing you booked?:-
The first thing we booked was the venue, I was so excited about the whole thing I just loved the thought of planning a wedding and had lots of Pinterest boards for all the ideas I had, I also made a scrap book which really helped with getting ideas onto paper so me and Gareth could agree on what we both wanted our day to be like.
How did you plan your wedding, what parts of the wedding were more important to you and why:-
Pinterest! I loved looking Pinterest, they have so many amazing ideas and insperation and all can be tailored to fit your own wedding style, we loved the country garden theme but also with a vintage feel, we found lots of ideas to make our day just what we wanted.
The most important things for me were involving both sides of our family we both have two sisters so it was important to me they were all bridesmaids along with our two nieces and 3 nephews as page boy/ushers, they all looked so smart and it was important to me the children felt like a special part of our day.
It was also very important to me that I was married I a church, I was brought up going to a Catholic Church and it felt right to me that I was married in our family church.
The most important thing though was to make sure planning the wedding was a joint effort, Gareth was really interested in my ideas and also wanted a say in what the day would be like, although it was frustrating at times to agree on some things I was really happy he wanted to get involved.
Tell our readers about your wedding venue, where is it and why you chose it?
Our reception was at The Hawkhills in Easingwold.
We chose this venue after viewing some other venues in York it was clear we couldn’t agree on one, my mum suggested we looked at The Hawkhills, we had never heard of anyone getting married there (other than her friends daughter) but we went to have a look to see what we thought.
As soon as we made our way down the driveway it felt like a special venue, when we looked around there is so much land and the rooms were beautiful and vintage, the venue also had an apple orchard which had blossom in May which was perfect it was just the most amazing and beautiful venue and one we both agreed on!
The wedding organiser was also really lovely and helpful, she made us feel so comfortable and we wanted to book as soon as we saw it.
Can you tell us about your Day, did you have a theme and what made it so special?
We went for a vintage/country garden theme, I loved the idea of pimms on the lawn and the confetti cones! We also had a vintage suitcase with photos of our relatives when they were married, some vintage family photos and lots of bunting and hessian!
Our table centrepieces were cream jugs with colourful flowers and we had our favours handmade, they were all lavender filled heart shaped decorations all different material and colours i think this was one of my favourite things of our Wedding theme.
Where did you get your wedding dress and why did you choose that designer or style?
I got my dress from Confetti and Lace in Pudsey, originally I thought I would have a more fitted fishtail style dress but when I put this dress on I felt so special and didn’t want to take it off that’s when I knew it was my wedding dress and I did always know I wanted to cover my shoulders as the boob tube style would not suit my figure , this dress had cap sleeves and a square neck with cut out detail on the back.
If you had the chance to do it all again and you could change one thing, what would it be and why?:-
I wouldn’t change anything at all our day was perfect to us, however I do wish we had a videographer for certain parts of the day we couldn’t capture ourselves.
If you were to give other Brides and Grooms three top tips, what would they be and why?
1. Remember the day is about the two of you and no-one else, if someone is stressing you out trying to make things about them or telling you their opinions, they don’t matter it’s your wedding day so you do what the two of you want to do.
2. Make time for each other during the day, even if it is a couple of minutes.
3. Have fun and enjoy the day!
