Melissa & Steve: Ivory & Pinks for a Pretty Cyprus Destination Wedding with Rustic Detailing
Hello, gorgeous ones! I do hope that you’re having the very best bank holiday and enjoying the sun. How lush has this weekend been? Although we’re not officially working today, we just had to pop by with the prettiest real wedding from a lovely lady who actually works within the wedding world, Melissa of Rustic By Marney, who I’ve had the pleasure of chatting with during #weddinghour. Today is also a very special day, as Mel and Steve are celebrating their first anniversary as a married couple, which is so exciting. Congratulations guys!
Mel and her beau, Steve’s special day in was held in Cyprus and is nothing short of beautiful. With foliage aplenty, pops of blush and ivory, the colours complimented Mel’s own rustic styling wonderfully. I’m sure you will agree they day looks like a sunny and fun filled paradise, and we can’t wait for you to read more about the oh-so gorgeous goings on.
Their wedding was captured by the very talented Photo 7 Studio.
Steve and Melissa met through friends, and then their relationship blossomed quickly. We honestly adore their love story, and this is reiterated through the intimacy of their wedding day.
“Steve and I met through a mutual friend. I was out with one of my best friends one night and Steve was there, she introduced us and we clicked straight away. I was instantly attracted to his piercing blue eyes! He asked my friend for my number and the rest was history. We’ve been together coming up 10 years, this October. It’s gone so quick, Steve has truly become my best friend and I can’t imagine my life without him! We’ve seen so much and been through so much in the past 10 years which has made us become stronger as a couple.“
Steve asked Mel to marry him during their anniversary trip to sunny Cyprus, which explains why they chose this idyllic setting to exchange their vows. Steve also had a bespoke diamond ring created for his wife-to-be, Mel which is just so, so stunning.
“We had a two week holiday booked to Cyprus in 2014 and our 6 year anniversary feel in between the trip. This was our first trip to Cyprus and it was beautiful, we were amazed at how beautiful the island was. On our anniversary we planned a road trip around part of the island and hired a car. The sun was beaming down, there were clear blue skies – it was the perfect day to go exploring! After a few stops visiting some of the small villages and stopping to take pictures I was feeling a little tired! So I thought I’d take a little nap and as it was on our way home we had already seen a lot. We took the route back along Aphrodite’s birth place which had the most amazing sea views with large rocks. When I woke we appeared to be on a dirt track in the middle of no where overlooking the stunning Aphrodite rocks’ views. Steve then said he had a surprise and for me to face the sea and not turn round. When I then looked round he was on one knee with a beautiful ring! Without any hesitation the answer was ‘yes’! The ring was beautiful, a white gold band with three sparking diamonds which Steve had designed himself and got made in London.”
“I had family living in Cyprus at the time so we rushed up there to tell them the good news! One of my family members asked “Where do you think you’ll get married?” and without a thought I instantly said here in Cyprus! I felt that it was right and so beautiful and personal to us that it just made sense. We were engaged for 2 years before we tied the knot so it gave us plenty of time to plan.”
“We both said from the beginning that we wouldn’t have a traditional wedding, we did stick to some traditions but we wanted a laid back, relaxing wedding celebrating our love with our family and friends. The most important aspect to me was having an exclusive, intimate venue where we could all celebrate together.”
Mel did the styling herself, opting for little rustic touches of hessian, jam jars, and bunting. This complimented the laid back style of the day and I’m sure you will agree, looked just perfect in their idyllic venue, Vasilias Nikoklis Inn. Sublime!
“We found a beautiful, private, traditional taverna in the hills just outside of Paphos and instantly feel in love with it, it was the perfect setting for us! It was in the middle of no-where with no surrounding buildings, we said from the beginning that we didn’t want to be overlooked or have too many surroundings. From the minute we got there we just felt that it was right. The taverna is run by a lovely cypriot family who were very welcoming. Christina, the wedding planner was extremely friendly and accommodating. Walking around the taverna we could already picture our wedding day taking place here.
The venue offered a supplier and entertainment package which included Cypriot dancers, making planning a lot easier and relaxed so we decided to take advantage of the packages for ease.”
When I first saw the images from Mel and Steve’s wedding, I truly fell in love with the Bride’s Mon Cheri gown which was adorned with delicate beading and detailing. The sheer neckline suited the beautiful bride wonderfully. To help Mel get ready on her special day, was Cyprus Makeover who styled Mel’s hair into a beautiful up-do with relaxed curls, framing her glowing face.
As for the Groom, Steve, he was looking oh-so dapper in a light grey tailored suit, of which was paired with blush tie and ivory waistcoat.
“I wore a Mon Cheri dress designed by David Tutera. It was hand beaded with crystals with a delicate netted train. I chose an A-line design as this was the best design that suited me. The dress had a beautiful netted, crystal back with buttons, I decided to wear my hair up to show of the back detail. I went for block-heeled shoes, as the floor was uneven at some points and there was lots of steps! My jewellery was delicate, I wore a delicate Links of London bracelet and swarovski studded earrings. Steve wore a light grey tailored suit with an ivory waistcoat and blush pink tie. Our fathers, brothers and groomsmen wore a similar grey suit teamed with a blush pink tie”
Melissa’s favourite ladies don the prettiest blush bridesmaids dresses and floral crowns. Their looks were completed with a bouquet of delicate white Gypsophila and a combination of ivory and blush Roses, which really did tie the whole day together perfectly.
The pretty blooms were styled and sourced from Flowershop Aliki, another Cyprus based supplier.
“We decided to go for a rustic theme to fit in with the style of the venue. We didn’t want it too overcrowded with decorations as the venue spoke for itself. We went for a blush pink and ivory theme.
We didn’t have the traditional top table but instead had one long table with my husband and myself at the top. Having 35 guests it didn’t feel too spread out, we felt like we were all together.”
Please, just how cute was their cake and decoration? We really do love how Mel an Steve thought of all the details, in such a chic way, including rustic signage and the most wonderful cake topper!
In order to help other couples and readers plan their dreamy wedding, we asked Mel and Steve if there would have been anything that they would have changed from the day;
“The day was just perfect and there’s nothing major that I would change! The only thing would be to give myself a bit more time to get ready in the morning!”
The beautiful duo also gave us their top tips to having the best day, take note Bride and Groom-to-be’s!
1. Take a moment out with your husband during the reception, just the two of you to absorb it all in! It can be truly overwhelming and the day goes so quick! We were lucky as we both went off on our own for some sunset pictures so we could enjoy some quality time together.
2. Allow plenty of time in the morning to get ready! My bridesmaid and I started to get ready early thinking that we had a while left, then all of a sudden the ceremony was 10 minutes away and I didn’t have my dress on! Keep an eye of the timings.
3. Do things your way and enjoy yourselves!
As mentioned earlier, it is Mel and Steve’s first wedding anniversary today (ek!). I’m sure it’s been a total whirlwind of a year for the newlyweds, as not only have they made plenty of new memories, but Mel has now joined this wonderful wedding world herself and created a business dedicated to rustic stationery and finishing touches.
“Fast forward nearly and we’ll be celebrating our 1-year anniversary! We have already made memories and will continue making many more! I’ve also set up a little business creating rustic wedding stationery! One year on and I’ve now helped many brides with their special day. Feel free to find out more at Rustic by Marney:
