A Luxury Wedding Showcase Fit for a Princess
Good morning, lovelies! I do hope you’re well and making the most of this gorgeous weather that we have being so fortunate to enjoy as of late. To bring even more beautiful to your day, we’re so delighted to be sharing the achingly dreamy styled shoot and pretty goings on that took place at Goldsborough Hall’s wedding open day, just a couple of months ago. Cue a talented and hand selected bunch of creatives, opulent blooms, an idyllic setting and a venue that is steeped in history.
There aren’t many chances in life to go all out princess, but your wedding day is absolutely one of them. If you’re planning a fairy tale wedding, your dream starts here…
Goldsborough Hall, a 17th century stately home, near Knaresborough, is overrun with history and is a classic choice for such a grand occasion. Every bride deserves to feel like a princess on her wedding day and this with is mind celebrity florists, Fulford Flowers were asked to create a luxury wedding showcase to fulfil even the most flamboyant princess fantasies!
‘Sheryl from Fulford Flowers, based near York, has worked at some of the country’s most prestigious venues, including Bulgari, the Dorchester, and The Shard to name a few and has some very famous celebrities clients including Sir Elton John,’ says Clare Oglesby, who along with husband Mark, owns the Hall. ‘The Hall is the perfect backdrop for her creations and so we were very excited to see what she would achieve.’
Sheryl explains the thinking behind her romantic vision: ‘When I first learnt about Goldsborough Hall I completely fell in love with the Royal story behind the home. When I visited and saw the stunning building and grounds and the newly renovated rooms, I felt so inspired.’
Goldsborough Hall was once home to a real princess in the 1920s when it was the royal residence of HRH Princess Mary, the Queen’s aunt, and her husband Viscount Lascelles, heir to the earl of Harewood (of Harewood House fame). Kings, Queens and Princes visited including George V, Queen Mary and the Prince of Wales. The Hall is once again in private hands and this was key to Sheryl’s design.
‘My vision was to create a very elegant but homely feel to the flower designs. Of course, it had to be a timeless white wedding set up using only luxurious flowers such as duchess peonies and hydrangeas. Each room is so unique and we wanted the flowers to tell a different story in each one,’ she says.
Her first transformation was in the newly restored Princess Mary Drawing Room, setting it up as a wedding ceremony. The American oak flooring has just been restored, perfect for laying down a white carpet aisle runner and customised Louis chairs for the bride and groom. The overhanging canopy cherry blossom trees created a gorgeous focal point while the guests’ white chavari chairs, lanterns at the edges and urn and plinth with all white flowers completed the dreamy look. Even the 18th century Robert Adam fireplace had an elegant mantel which fit perfectly with the beautiful décor. The very talented young pianist Ben Munro tickled the ivories to make this breathtakingly stunning room complete.
The Hall’s 18th century Dining Room was set for a rehearsal dinner using the long table to create a sumptuous evening banquet. Huge gold candelabra were filled with balls of flowers which worked so well with the dramatic 16th century fireplace and picked up the gold in the Robert Adam columns and cornice. The large pedestal in bay window gave a huge dramatic effect.
There was a regal atmosphere in the Orangery at Goldsborough Hall with the light and airy room set with long tables, gold chairs, and chandeliers accentuating the tables. Baubles of tealights floated from blossom trees while the top table twinkled with gorgeous candlelight, white orchids cascading down. A top table of dreams!
We asked Blossom Tree Cake Co to create a fabulous cake to compliment this stylish theme. Kean Ong, the creative talent behind Blossom Tree Cake Company, explains: ‘We were really thrilled to be able to showcase our work as part of the event and set out to provide a cake which complimented both the striking whites and greens of the florals by Fulford Flowers and the elegant sophistication of Goldsborough Hall. Our ranunculus and white roses design was hopefully the perfect match.’
The Hall’s private dining room was styled as an intimate wedding celebration while the two main bridal suites upstairs were given the full romantic treatment. Who wouldn’t want to step into the Lascelles Suite sunken bath on their wedding night?
Sheryl says: ‘We felt truly proud of the overall look of our designs and how they complimented this beautiful wedding venue. From creating a full wedding ceremony to an intimate dinner to a full wedding breakfast, the flowers needed to flow through the venue We are so excited to be working alongside them again soon.’
‘We were delighted with the styling and flowers from Sheryl. The Hall looked breathtaking! A wedding here at the Hall would really bring your fairy tale to life. Accommodating to large parties, we also have 16 bedrooms on site for the bride and her party to stay in. With the stunning Orangery offering the opportunity to wine and dine over 110 of guests (more with a marquee), the Hall is fit for a right royal shindig,’ says Clare.
Wow! What an utterly gorgeous day this looked, and such a treat for the Brides and Grooms attending. A huge thank you to everyone involved and to the wonderful wedding venue, Goldsborough Hall for allowing us share a little glimpse into such a sublime wedding showcase. Truly breathtaking.
