Let’s Talk About Wedding Insurance
Happy Hump Day, loves! I hope that you somehow manage to have a wonderful day, even though the weather is certainly telling us otherwise. What are your plans for today? I’m relieved that this is the last day of the month and am so looking forward to February, longer days, snow drops and well, just seeing the back of January.
For this week’s feature ‘The Wedding Affair Perfect Planning Guide‘ we are considering something that may, to some seem, the duller part of wedding planning and it’s understandable why this opinion is often had. I mean who wouldn’t choose looking at swoon-worthy gowns over hunting for insurance? (We’ll opt for the latter!) Non-the less, this topic is probably one of the most important, and priceless things to do when you start the planning of your dream day.
After you got engaged did you immediately insure your engagement ring? It’s probably the most expensive pieces of jewellery you’ll ever own. So, why wouldn’t you insure your wedding day; a day that costs on average £24,000+? Sorry to sound ever so negative, but what would you do if your whole world came crashing down, or if your dream venue pulled out 2 months before your wedding?
You may now be thinking, “I’m super organised, nothing could possibly go wrong”. However, no matter how organised you are, things can and still do go wrong, and it’s not always your fault. Just think of the number of suppliers you are booking, to put it into perspective.
It’s essential that you invest in some wedding insurance to cover every eventuality, or even just for peace of mind. Still not convinced?
What could possibly go wrong?
Where do we begin? What if your perfect wedding dress gets damaged, one of your suppliers goes out of business, or your wedding cake doesn’t turn up on the day? Investing in wedding insurance will cover you from any wedding day disasters you may, or may not encounter. If anything goes wrong, you’ll be secure in the knowledge that you’re covered.
If nothing goes wrong, even better, but that small amount will have brought you peace of mind on your big day. And, that’s priceless.
If it’s a small wedding is insurance still necessary?
Even if you are having only a small affair, it can still cost a matter of thousands. Many insurance companies offer several packages of cover reflecting the different costs, sizes and individual cover of weddings. So, whether yours is going to be a cost-effective day with your nearest and dearest, or extravagant and expensive, there’ll be cover that suits you, and your needs! There is no excuse.
Getting married abroad?
Are you planning an intimate beach wedding in the Maldives? Even if you are having a destination wedding it’s absolutely 100% worth getting insured. Even more so with destination weddings, as it may be harder to get in contact with suppliers, or go see if your venue is what you are expecting. Many things can come into play here such as language barriers, and of course, distance! Most wedding insurance companies also offer essential document indemnity cover for weddings that are abroad. Would you travel without travel insurance? So why would you not cover your wedding when it’s over seas?
How much will it cost & When should you get it?
Wedding insurance can start from as low as £20. Obviously, this differs depending where you get it from, and how much you chose to cover. According to John Lewis (Pst, they are approved by The Wedding Affair) the average claim is for £2,400, and due to supplier failure. So, this most definitely is money well spent! Yes, it may just seem like an optional extra to add to the ever growing, and possibly daunting budget spread sheet, but it could save you a lot of heart ache, stress, not to mention money.
You should get your wedding insurance as soon as you start planning your wedding. Investing today will cover anything going wrong between now and your wedding day. Yes, we understand that when you go to wedding fairs it may not be the thing that jumps out at you. It’s far to easy to get carried away with tasting delectable cakes, or looking round the most prestigious venues. I’m sure I would do to.
You wouldn’t move into a house, or drive a car without valid insurance, so, why skip it out on your wedding day? We can honestly say it’s an investment worth having!
