An Interview With Iain Henderson Designs – Beautifully Handcrafted Rings & Jewellery From Their Sparkling New Studio.
Today is a very exciting and busy day for a whole bunch of reasons, first of all it’s my college awards ceremony and graduation-do (wish me luck, guys!), second of all it’s ‘Hump Day’ – which of course, means that it’s time for our all time favourite chat; #weddinghour will be taking place this evening over on Twitter, 9-10pm and, finally, we’ll be having a takeover from Approved Supplier, Iain Henderson Designs.
If you haven’t yet been introduced to Iain Henderson Designs, then today is your day to say “Hello“, ask them your questions about diamonds, bespoke pieces or, just about anything jewellery related for your wedding. They’ll be taking control of the @WeddingHour account on twitter to bring you a completely bespoke #weddinghour all about their beautiful creations.
Of course, this all comes with good reason as it marks the launch of their brand new, sparkling studio in Bingley. Pst, if you’re in the area there’s still time to snap up your free tickets for an evening with Iain and his team tonight to mark this every special occasion and their #weddinghour takeover.
So, with our further ado, i’ll pass it over to the lovely team to tell us a little more about the story behind Iain Henderson Designs.
Tell us a little bit about you and what made you start up your company. Are there any highlights in your career that are special to you either professionally or personally?:-
“Iain completed a silversmith’s degree at Sheffield University, and for his final graduation exhibition in London, Iain produced a tea set which was snapped up by Bienvenida Buck.
After this, Iain launched his own jewellery collection – Iain Henderson Designs, and sold his jewellery through a variety of independent retailers. Iain soon became frustrated with the lack of service and advice that customers buying his jewellery received through the chosen retailers.
Iain thought that there must be another way he could provide his customers with the right knowledge and help them create jewellery that they wanted, providing a more comfortable environment that a high street store!”
What makes you different and inspires Brides/Grooms to book your services or purchase your products. For example, do you have a particular style or theme, what materials and colours have you used?:-
“We are completely different from what the high street stores have to offer, with our bespoke service, no pressure environment, based in a beautiful setting, offer CAD and Iain’s knowledge and expertise in jewellery. We accommodate all budgets, and are affordable. We remodel jewellery, so if you have a family heirloom wasting away in a drawer. we can create something new using the metal or the stones.
Customers can be involved every step of the way in designing and creating their jewellery. We don’t have stock to sell, all our jewellery is made to order which means customers will never be pressured into buying stock that we want them to buy.”
Is there anyone in the industry or in the World for that matter, that inspires you and gives you a sense of direction:-
“A jewellers who Iain has admired for some time is Niessing – he appreciates their work and the simplicity of their designs. Iain is also inspired by Richard Branson as he has a way with people, a great outlook on life with good business practices and a vision.”
What do you love about weddings, what makes you get up in the morning and do you have any stories to tell or embarrassing moments:-
“Iain loves meeting new brides and grooms at wedding fairs we exhibit at. He thrives in giving them the right, technical information which they wouldn’t necessarily receive in a high street store. Information such as the difference in metals, diamonds and how we can use what we call a clever diamond, precious stones and even advising on what would work best around their jobs and hobbies.”
If you were to offer three tips to a Bride/Groom, on planning their wedding, what would they be?
“1. Don’t waste too much of your budget on little things that only last for the ‘big day’ itself. Items such as your wedding rings, are to last a lifetime, so setting your budget right for your rings is important!
2. Make ALL your wedding appointments fun! Enjoy trying on all the different styles of rings, cake tasting, venue tours and food tasting.
3. On your wedding day, make sure you soak up all the love, joy and bliss and enjoy it!!”
What type of Venue, Style of Wedding or Theme would suit your products or services and why?
“Our products will fit all styles and themes of wedding as we believe jewellery is an expression of your personality!”
What are your plans for the future, where would you like to be in 5 years time both in the industry and personally-
“We’ve just finished our new studio, so our plans now are to build the business and our brand name through recommendations, wedding fairs, our new website and social media platforms. We want to make sure we are the name everyone knows for bespoke jewellery!”
Can you tell our Brides/Grooms what sizes are available, colours, designs and retail price ranges?
“We work with all types of metals from, Platinum, Palladium, 9ct & 18ct yellow gold, 9ct & 18ct white gold – working with all budgets.
Iain has worked with (our diamond supplier) Henri Keesje since 2001 after meeting each other at a jewellery fair in London – Henri is a fifth-generation diamond merchant, who sources all of our diamonds and precious stones.
Based in Antwerp, the centre of Europe’s diamond trade and the largest diamond district in the world, Henri is ideally placed to find us the millimetre-perfect sparkling stones we need for our jewellery.
We work to all budgets the best we can, but our prices for an engagement ring for example, can range from £1,200.00 to £6,000.00, however, the sky’s the limit! Iain will also take into consideration what the bride and groom do for their jobs/hobbies ensuring the right metals have been used – a lot of high street store won’t even take this into account.”
Do you have premises or stockists? Where should Brides/Grooms go to find your products? Are you looking for further stockists and if so, in which areas?
“The only premises we have is the studio, which is located behind Iain’s house. Customer can find us online, social media platforms and we also attend wedding fairs throughout the wedding season. A list of the ones we will be attending for the rest of the year can be found on our website.”
Remember, tonight from 9pm is your time to ask questions, say ‘Hello‘ and to talk about jewellery, weddings and your own pretty plans. You can join Iain Henderson Designs in #weddinghour this evening over on Twitter, 9-10pm.
Have a lovely day all!
