The Beauty Bible: Great Grooming Tips For Grooms…
Many Grooms will already be Au Fait with all the latest cleansers, moisturisers and hair products, they might even spend hours styling their hair and shaping their beards. But for others, a good pamper and a shave is definitely pushing the boat out for a big event. A wedding has to fall into that category, especially when the groom will be one of the main centres of attention!
Either way, you want to be looking, and feeling, your best for your big day. Whether you’re bearded, moustached, or clean shaven. Have long hair, short hair, or hair all over! So from when to trim, to what to trim, to how to hide a hangover. The Wedding Affair has it all covered.
The Wedding Affair brings you this weeks Beauty Bible especially for all of our lovely grooms. So here is our guide to being the most well-groomed groom on your wedding day!
It may sound silly, but as soon as the question has being popped wash your face twice a day, daily. Wash with warm water twice a day and ditch the soap. Invest in a good cleanser and a weekly exfoliator. We recommend using the Clinique for Men Sonic System Facial Cleansing Brush along with the Clinique for Men Face Wash. You will soon notice an extra polish and pore-less look to your complexion!
Water doesn’t just do good for your insides. Did you know that drinking nearly 2 litres of water a day will also keep you looking energised and revitalised.
Start a regular eight glasses of water a day workout ahead of your wedding, and your skin will be clear, clean and an have enough blush to rival your bride, in time for your big day.
Seasonal Skin Care
Do you burn easily in the sun? If you are having a summer wedding, make sure that you wear sun cream prior to your wedding day to avoid any red blotchy patches in your wedding photos. Alternatively, if your skin chaps and drys easily in winter, do make sure that you are consistent with moisturising!
So you know you have to moisturise, but unless you’re a long time groomer, it’ can be hard to know what you need. Do your research, talk to a professional facialist and chat to consultants at a couple of different cosmetic counters to see what’s on offer. You may need something matte to reduce shine, something medicated to treat acne, or something mild to ease onto your sensitive skin. Get a few testers, and see which product works best for you before you make a purchase.
At The Wedding Affair we are all for guys embracing a new skincare regime ahead of a wedding, moisturiser, night cream, face masks? All fantastic in our books – but just keep it regular. Stopping and starting a regime will mess with your skin, and whatever you do, please do not start trying out new products right before your wedding.
Practice Makes Perfect…
Do you love your look on Day 3 of beard growth? Or was it day 5? Trial and error is the only and best way to assess your beard growth if you’re going for that handsome stubble look for your wedding day.
Try shaving a few times, take note of how long, on average, it takes for you to get to optimum wedding day stubble. With your brides permission (obviously!)
Get together with your grooms men and treat your self to a pre-wedding pampering. We recommend a hot towel shave, to both calm nerves and to give you the sharpest looking shave.
A straight razor gives the cleanest shave, so if you’re after a sharp, clean look for your wedding day, book in for a professional lather with your barber of choice. Once again, do talk to your barber about whether you’ll need to do this before or day of your wedding, depending on your growth, and proneness to irritation. The Wedding Affair recommends Basesment 68 Barbers…
Beautiful Beard & Brows
We love a bearded groom, who doesn’t? But if yours is unruly, wiry, or unclean looking, you may want to re think your wedding day look… trim your beard weekly in the lead up to your wedding to get it into great shape. There are also lots of great products available for blokes with beards, so invest in something like a beard oil, soap or conditioner, that keeps your full facial hair groomed and glossy! Your bride to be wont be able to resist.
Okay so evil, finely plucked brows are not what you want to see in the mirror on your wedding day, but neither is an angry mono-brow. Pluck any stray hairs between your eyes a couple of days before your wedding to avoid redness.
Cut The Hasty Hair-Cut
As you would do with your beard, make sure you know what type of hair re growth you prefer. Unless you plan on getting something drastic (do that at least a month before the wedding!), or you keep your hair tightly shaved, book your last hair trim one week before your wedding.
This will give you time to let the style settle and not look too over done, but still of course, looking neat, sharp and fresh.
Also have you ever tried hair spray? If you are wanting a style that is sleek and softly styled, then hair spray could be perfect for you! Even though gels and hair products are among the most popular with gents, they can often leave hair looking stiff or shiny. We recommend having a trial run with different products before the day.
Does your other half constantly harass you about your rough hands or unkempt toe nails? Well, no better time to invest in a manicure and pedicure! It will leave both hands and feet feeling soft, and you will have perfectly polished nails.
Wedding budgets and table plan politics stressing you out? Why not book in for a massage? Or spend the day with the guys and spend a few hours at a sophisticated spa. Not sure where to look? Take a look at our Spa/Venue suppliers approved by us at The Wedding Affair, for the most luxurious spas and treatments in Yorkshire.
Remember that, de-stressing before your wedding will not only leave you feeling great, but it will show on your face, and in your posture, too. Did you read our blog on how to deal with wedding day stress? Read Vow To Stress Less…
You are going to be smiling a lot on your wedding day, so make sure your teeth are up to the job. Are you a big coffee drinker? Or perhaps you just cant resist that glass of red wine with your evening meal. Drinks like these can easily discolour teeth over a period of time. Use a dentist approved teeth whitening tooth paste, or if you want to splurge out then why not get your teeth professionally whitened. It could be a big confidence booster , just make sure you get them done a couple of months before the wedding to avoid sensitivity. (You want to be able to enjoy that cake, right?)
Did your ‘one’ drink with your best man end up slightly more? If you have a hangover on your wedding day, the signs will be obvious on your skin. Put cold packs under your eyes (cucumbers or sandwich bags of peas will work too!) use some really rich moisturiser to try to put a little sparkle back into your complexion. We recommend Elemis Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm as a nourishing facial mask.
