Hello, loves! We’re delighted to be welcoming you to the blog this morning for a lovely chat with one of our approved suppliers Freya, of Freya Raby Creative Photography. Not only will Freya be sharing her pearls of wedded wisdom for Brides and Grooms, but she’s also giving us an insight into the hard work that she puts into capturing breathtaking photographs, that provide memories that can be cherished forever.
Also, feast your eyes over the delightful engagement shoot that Freya captured at Brimham Rocks. Absolutely gorgeous images!
Hi, Freya! Tell us a little bit about you and what made you start up ‘Freya Raby Creative Photography’ and your love for capturing memories…
“Before I began to pursue photography as a job I was actually planning on studying mathematics at uni. Yes, plot twist, I thought I wanted to go into finance! Following that path definitely seemed like the ‘sensible’ option but my heart just wasn’t in it.
When I got my first camera on my 14th birthday I fell in love with photography and since then my dream has been to become a professional photographer. It was very much one of those ‘head or heart’ moments, and my passion won. I withdrew my uni application, finished my A Levels and threw myself into photography.
I’m now nearly 2 years into business and absolutely love everything about my job as a photographer.”
What do you bring to the wedding industry and what types of services do you offer?
Do you offer different photography packages for Brides and Grooms? If so, please do let us know.
“Every couple is different and therefore every wedding I cover is different – nobody fits into just one box. I’ve to make everything as customisable as possible with my wedding photography packages so that you can pick and choose exactly what you want.
I offer two packages to Brides and Grooms, the first one includes a pre-wedding consultation, full day coverage from bridal prep until half an hour after your first dance, professional editing, all images on a high quality USB, decorative box with 40 7×5 prints and a password protected online gallery.
The second one includes all of the above and my two most popular extras: an engagement session and an A4 engagement print, frame and extra wide mount. The engagement print is one of my favourite extras as it can act as a creative alternative to a guest book, the extra wide mount is perfect for guests to sign!”
Do you have a particular style or theme that you work with and shines through in your images?:-
“I have a natural, creative, documentary style approach to wedding photography. After all, photographing a couple and their friends and family is all about capturing moments; emotions; feelings. I love those candid moments, I’m not one to ask you to stare down my lens and ‘smile’!”
What do you love about weddings and why should people book a photographer – What sets you apart from others in the industry?
“As well as adoring everything about the creative side of weddings – colourful flowers, pretty dresses, brilliant venues, I’m also very lame and a huge romantic. I love hearing people’s love stories and seeing how happy two people can make each other.
To be completely honest, by the time my client’s wedding comes around we tend to have had spoken enough for me to feel more like a friend than a wedding supplier and I generally tend to get a little teary at some point throughout the day!”
Would you suggest a pre-wedding/ engagement photo shoot to Brides and Grooms? If so, why and what sorts of locations are best for these?
“Very few people actually enjoy having their photo taken, which can mean that knowing you’ll be photographed on your wedding day is something you feel uncomfortable about. Engagement shoots not only give you an opportunity to get to know your photographer and how they work, but also help settle pre wedding nerves.
My aim as your photographer is to build your confidence of being in front of the lens and help you to relax with your partner. By the end of the engagement session, we’ll all feel a little closer each other and you will have had the opportunity to become familiar with the camera.
Pre-wedding sessions also give us the chance to capture remarkable landscapes with no time pressures like on a wedding day, I love a bit on an adventure when it comes to location. Malham Cove and Snake Pass in the Peak District are definitely on my wish list!”
Do you create albums for Brides and Grooms and do you offer any post-wedding services?
“Photos should be printed and put in photo frame on the wall or in an album to flick through and not just kept on a USB stick in a drawer!
The extras I offer are all gorgeous, high quality products that I’m proud of, I’ve searched high a low and only use the best local suppliers. You could choose to go big (or go home) and have an eye-catching A1 print of your favourite shot or have your entire day made into a beautiful linen bound album or both!?”
What advice do you offer to couples planning their wedding to help them with their special-day plans?
“One thing you must know as Brides and Grooms to be is: wedding suppliers are very well connected in the industry. We all cross paths with each other and build relationships, be it at wedding fairs, real weddings or social media. We know who we prefer to work alongside and who we don’t; who will always do what they say and who’s unreliable; who’s amazing at what they do and who isn’t. So, if for example you’re stuck for a wedding cake and you already have a florist you love, ask for their recommendation.”
Thank you so much for all of this, Freya! Are there any final comments you’d like to make – do you have any late availability in which couples can still snap up a date with you to capture their wedding?
“I’m currently half way to being fully booked for next year and have just started taking bookings for 2020, however I do still have availability left for this year. If anyone is having a 2018 wedding and still needs a photographer, I’d love to hear from you!”
