Christina & Paul: An Elegant and Traditional Scottish Wedding For a Gorgeous Duo.
Hello loves, is that Spring we see outside? We honestly can’t believe that a new season has arrived already, it only seems a short time ago that we were just finishing the Christmas and New Year’s festivities. Although, it would be lovely to see a little more sunshine and a little less snow for mid-March.
Our gorgeous real wedding today features a beautiful September’s day for a traditional Scottish celebration, something that was very close to the hearts of both Christina and Paul. The two tied the knot on the 10th of September 2016 at the most elegant of Glasgow venues and their perfectly pretty day, surrounded by family and friends was captured by the oh-so talented Carley Buick; a photographer that loves to capture natural moments as they appear. And guess what? That’s exactly what she did for today’s couple, resulting in a beautiful collection of memories.
We can’t wait for you to see the pretty snaps, a beautiful recollection of the day and possibly one of the dreamiest bridal looks we have featured on the blog. Oh, and those shoes. Grab a cuppa’ and fest your eyes on this gorgeous celebration of love…
Lovers, Christina and Paul met in November 2010 at the birthday party of two mutual friends. 5 year later, Paul popped the question in one of our favourite places, Barcelona with a ring that not only was a stunning one, but too, meant a lot to Christina.
“We got engaged in Barcelona in July 2015 in front of the Fountains of Montjuic. Paul got down on one knee with my great granny’s engagement ring which I had always loved. It was very romantic and a very special but surreal moment which we’ll never forget.”
Christina’s wedding day look is one that we adored, from the glittering Badgley Mischka shoes and of course, the elegance of the Vicenta dress by none other than Barcelona designer, Atelier Pronovias. Her gown of choice was a slim-fit crepe mermaid style with nude details and delicate lace appliqués that suited the bride down to a T.
“I found it relatively easy to choose my dream dress as I knew I wanted a fitted dress with lace. I wanted a dress which was modern but elegant. I found my dress in a shop called Anne Priscilla Bridal in Glasgow.
They had the most amazing selection of dresses and the staff there completely understood what style of dress I was looking for. I felt that the Pronovias dress which I chose was elegant and suited to the classic venue. The fabric was amazing quality and it was such an easy dress to wear all day.”
Christina’s wedding day look was completed with a glowing complexion, golden eyes and a dainty pop of nude on her lips. The beautiful bride chose Louise Ballantine to do her makeup and the talented Hair Boutique Renfrew to style her hair in a gorgeous up-do.
We next asked the bride and groom what sort of style they envisioned for their special day, to their response was that they just opted for what they loved the most and something that was fitting with their venue
“We never started out with a particular theme/style in mind for our big day. We thought the interior of our venue was so beautiful that it wasn’t so necessary to have a bold style. We wanted a traditional Scottish wedding that was elegant and natural.”
Saint Andrew’s Cathedral of Glasow was where the two exchanged vows and we completely adore the images that Carley captured. We’re certain that these will make for some of the most precious memories. Also, be this a reminder to brides and grooms, that investing in a photographer is so, so worth while. The blooming beautiful bouquet and wedding-day styling was courtesy of Flowers 4 Hours and we loved how they had little nods to Scottish Heritage combined with beautiful greenery and autumnal purples.
The combined love for travel was also a theme throughout the day, this seating map was created by BWedding Invitations. Avid travel lovers, take note as this is one way to covey this love without the fuss and with heaps of elegance.
Award-winning A-Cakes created a beautiful three-tiered cake that had matching flowers from the bouquet and a dainty purple swirl for decoration. The simple, clean-cut design was oh-so fitting for their elegant celebration and tied their look together. This is the perfect representation of how a cake certainly doesn’t have to be complicated in order to be a centre piece.
A String Quartet would be an obvious choice for an elegant celebration of love, and fitting for their venue. Multi award-winning Capella String Quartet played the sound to their wedding reception, whilst guests wined and dined on delicious canapes and fizz from Cafe Source at St Andrews in the Square.
In regards to other DIY elements and styling, their inspiration was from different online sources and purely their own vision;
“We took inspiration from various things we’d seen at other weddings, blogs, Pinterest and Instagram. I had made a few chalk boards”
Paul brought his suit from Glasgow-based tailors, Geoffrey Kiltmakers and I’m sure you will agree how dapper he looks?
The groomsmen all don the same dapper suits as Paul whilst the Maids wore the prettiest dusty pink dresses from Watters. We love the colour-combo of the men’s blue in the kilts and the ladies pink gowns. Totally gorgeous!
Please, just how gorgeous are these four?!
Dainty favours were miniature whiskeys for the gentleman and hand cream for the ladies attending. Scottish Heritage and travel was still an ongoing style throughout the day, with more floral gorgeousness and table names that represented the couples favourite places.
At the reception, an almost too-good-to eat sweet buffet took centre-stage (of course, behind Christina) providing the guests with some delicious treats, and a fun element to their day. I’ve honestly never seen a Ferrero Rocher heart before, delish!
Christina has some pearls of wisdom for other couples planning their wedding. Brides, I also think this one is mainly aimed at you, too!
“Don’t get too stressed over the minor details. Nobody really cares! I threw a bridezilla fit the day before the wedding when we were setting up the venue as I thought the speakers looked huge. In hindsight… it really didn’t matter! The whole venue looked great even with the speakers. Remind yourself that your wedding guests aren’t going to notice the tiny details which haven’t gone to plan. All that really matters is that everyone is having a good time!”
When asking Christina and Paul what their favourite moment of the day was, their response was; “Dancing with our nearest and dearest to Loch Lomond (a traditional Scottish song) at the end of the night!” Proving that a wedding really is just about the two of you, celebrating love and enjoying time with friends and family. It’s these little moments that really do make it worthwhile.
The Little Red Wedding Band played the sound to the couples evening reception.
As we close-up this gorgeous celebration, we would just like to say a huge thank you to the couple, Christina and Paul for letting us share your very special day. We’ve honestly loved reading about the elegant goings on and your crazy pretty love story. I’m also sure that many other couples will find your golden words of wisdom very useful. From The Wedding Affair, we would like to wish you a wonderful future, and a healthy and happy marriage.
Also, a huge thank you to Carley Buick for sending us over this idyllic wedding, your work is so beautiful, as quite clearly shown in today’s real wedding. For a full story of the day, we have a gallery of all the images below, along with full vendor credits below.
