It’s All About The Maids’; Bridesmaid Styling & Top Tips
We have made it to hump day, and we all know that means one thing, it’s #weddinghour this evening! We would love you join us between 9-10pm for lots (and lots!) of the prettiest inspiration to plan your very own wedding. This is your chance to ask questions, find suppliers local to you and talk to other couples about how their planning is going, too. A cost effective, lovely and fun way to check off ‘Wedmin’!
Tonight’s topic in #weddinghour is all about Bridesmaids. Yes, we are talking all things from finding the perfect dress for your leading ladies, to bridesmaid etiquette and bridesmaid buying tips. And, to kick-start tonight’s topic for #weddinghour we are talking about how to select the perfect dresses or outfits to make them feel even more gorgeous no matter what their shapes, sizes or personalities.
You have already done the hardest part by asking your favourite ladies to stand by your side on the big day, and after what should have been gracious acceptance (perhaps accompanied by loud squeals of excitement?) of course, it’s time to get discussing about what outfits they are going to wear. Remember, It’s your job to make sure these ladies both look and feel gorgeous!

So, first things first, where will you find your inspiration for outfits?
Here at The Wedding Affair we would recommend searching through magazines, Pinterest, blogs and directories; the wedding world is huge, so use social media and the internet to your advantage. Oh and remember, opting for seasonal colours is a wonderful way in which you can bring a theme or colour idea together.
The glossiest of magazines will have pages upon pages of suggestions for bridesmaids, real weddings, interviews with designers and masses of inspiration for you and your girls to look at. Blogs, too, are a great (and free!) source of research, search inspiration boards for seasonal colour ideas and the latest top-trends. Pinterest and Instagram are also a great places to look for inspiration and makes it very easy to share images and links with your girls from your own inspiration boards and saved items.
The bridal boutiques and stores that you visit for bridal gowns will also often have a selection of bridesmaids dresses to try and if not, ask them for recommendations. Of course, this calls for a girly afternoon out with your favourites which is always a lovely way to make the wedding plans last longer and also, get their opinions there and then on outfits that they love.

The Budget & Mix Match…
If you’re hoping for a little help from your girls on the cost, it’s important to have these conversations early on, rather than in a busy shop trying on dresses. Many brides cover the cost of the dresses but ask that the bridesmaids choose and pay for their own shoes and accessories, something they would use again.
If you don’t want your girls to wear the same, one way bridesmaids can choose their own outfits is for the bride to pick a style or colour for them to go with. That way everyone can feel comfortable and buy things to match their own budgets. This idea would be especially great for ladies that are a bit fussy, or if one dress doesn’t suit all. We’ve seen many examples where this all ties together amazingly!
We all have very set colours and shapes that we wear for everyday clothes because, well, that’s what we wear. A bridesmaid boutique that stocks a good range of colours is a great way to let your girls try on something new and then leave the dress on for a few minutes, if it’s not something you are used to. After they get over the initial shock of change, some colours are real growers! Remember, the decision on Bridesmaids outfits are your own, whether you allow for mix and match dresses, a specific colour or even a jumpsuit; your ladies should respect the decision that you go with, along as you accommodate for their different sizes and shapes.

If you’re looking at dresses on the high street, try lots of different necklines and styles that will suit your girls. Try and find the best style to suit different body shapes, where possible. If you are wanting all of your bridesmaids with some uniformity in the colour and length but then rocking their own shape, then we totally would recommend Two Birds and Onlyway. These gowns allow you to tie them in different ways to allow for each individuals personality and shape.
Remember, whilst it is still your wedding, taking these things into consideration is a really nice thing to do and will be much appreciated by your girls. Have a think about the styles and shapes of dresses you usually see them wearing and see if there are any that suit them all.
Alternatively, as mentioned earlier, there is always the option of having miss-match bridesmaid dresses. This is a really popular wedding trend which we are seeing more and more of in recent years.
