Your appointment’s booked – you’re going to be trying on your first wedding dresses!
Choosing your dream dress is one of the most exciting parts of your big day planning. Most brides-to-be can’t wait to get in those fitting rooms, surrounded by beautiful gowns to try. With your mum and maid of honour sat with a glass of bubbly waiting for the big reveal, the wedding excitement has become very real!
However, there are some things you need to consider before your first appointment. Have you thought about what to bring, and what to wear? Make sure you arrive prepared with our Top Tips for trying on your wedding dress.
Know your budget
You’re in the bridal shop. You’re trying on gowns, champagne is flowing and your bridesmaids are fit to burst with excitement. It’s easy to get carried away. Avoid dramas by only trying on the dresses that fit within your price range. When you arrive, let the assistant know your budget. Make a rule not to try on anything above it, and stick to it.
Dress for the occasion
Don’t worry, we’re not suggesting you turn up in cocktail dress! But do think about your underwear. It depends on your personal style, of course, but most wedding dresses don’t look so great with a black t-shirt bra. A nude, strapless bra – that fits properly – is a usually a fail-safe option.
Bring your jewellery
Is your heart set on wearing a particular necklace? Are your earrings a family heirloom? If you have jewellery, or accessories, which you are certain you’ll be wearing on your big day, bring them with you to your appointment. You’ll want to ensure that you find the style of wedding dress that they go with perfectly.
Which reminds us…
…don’t forget your shoes
Have you already found your dream wedding shoes? Bring them with you! You need to know how they look with your gown once you’ve tried it on.
If you haven’t found your shoes, don’t worry. Why not bring some shoes in a similar height to those you plan on wearing? That way, whether you’re set on a killer heel or are planning on ballet flats, you’ll be sure that your style – and length – of wedding dress suits.
Don’t be disheartened
You might not find your dream dress at the first bridal shop you go to. Or the second. Or the third. But that doesn’t mean it’s not out there!
Just like a fiancé, some brides find the one straight away – whilst others date a few frogs before their prince comes along! It’s the same with your dress.
